Fibber McGee and Molly presents “Tall Story Contest,” episode 460 of the classic radio comedy, originally broadcast on January 1, 1946. Jim Jordan stars as Fibber McGee alongside Marian Jordan as Molly, with Harlow Wilcox as announcer.
On New Year’s Day in Wistful Vista, Fibber faces a same-day deadline for the Elks Club’s annual tall-story contest—and its $100 first prize. As Molly and familiar neighbors offer encouragement, Fibber wrestles with a typewriter and the challenge of turning one of his legendary yarns into a contest-winning tale. Written by Don Quinn and Phil Leslie, the NBC broadcast was sponsored by Johnson’s Wax.
Fibber McGee and Molly presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
