The Shadow presents “The Ghost of Captain Bayloe,” originally broadcast February 5, 1939. In this surviving Mutual Broadcasting System adventure, Bill Johnstone stars as Lamont Cranston, with Agnes Moorehead as Margot Lane; the episode is listed as No. 158.
After the freighter Northern Queen is wrecked near the waters of Bayloe Island, a survivor insists the ghost of Captain Bayloe seized the helm. Lamont and Margot follow the trail from a fogbound waterfront to a remote, rock-ringed island, where an old maritime legend conceals a dangerous mystery.
The Shadow presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
