The Shadow presents “The Ghost on the Stair,” originally broadcast December 29, 1940. This is episode 208 of the series, starring William Johnstone as Lamont Cranston and Marjorie Anderson as Margo Lane.
A visit to a small Southern hotel—once part of a Civil War-era plantation—draws Cranston and Margo into a troubling local legend. With an old spinet sounding in the night, reports of a woman on the staircase, and frightened guests abandoning the hotel, The Shadow investigates its haunted past and unnerving present. Written by Jerry Devine for the Mutual Broadcasting System’s Blue Coal broadcast.
The Shadow presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned and mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
