The Shadow presents “The Chess Club Murders,” originally broadcast February 23, 1941. Episode 216 finds Lamont Cranston and Margo Lane at the Black Rook Chess Club, in a Blue Coal-sponsored Mutual Broadcasting System production written by Jerry Devine.
A murder among the club’s competitive members draws Cranston into a tense investigation shaped by rivalries, a newspaper proprietor, and a manuscript that seems to echo the case. Bill Johnstone stars as Lamont Cranston/The Shadow, with Marjorie Anderson as Margo Lane.
The Shadow presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
