Vanderbilt Starts Jared Curtis. Here's Why Ole Miss Should Want That | Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt Week

Vanderbilt is starting its five-star freshman, and the easy read is that Jared Curtis makes Saturday harder for Ole Miss. That's the wrong read. Steven Willis says Curtis is the better matchup for Pete Golding, because a defense that gave up 302 rushing yards at Florida has more to fear from Blaze Berlowitz's misdirection option game than from a freshman in the pocket.

Tomorrow: Ole Miss at Vanderbilt. Saturday, 2:30 PM CT / 3:30 PM ET, ESPN.

Steven Willis and Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal on the Curtis start, what the Adidas money buys, a uniform reset, the storm, a 2006 lightning delay Steven watched from the press box, and Katz's call.

📌 THREE THINGS

1. Curtis is the better draw for Ole Miss. Steven says misdirection option football with Blaze Berlowitz is the bigger problem for a defense that gave up 302 rushing yards at Florida. Michael Katz: show the freshman a lot of looks and get in his head early, because he doesn't see a world where Curtis plays poorly and Ole Miss loses.

2. The Adidas money is a reset. "You can't turn down that sort of money," Katz says. Ten years ago, Ole Miss doesn't get this deal. Football's look can't change, but Steven wants a reset everywhere else, and a powder-blue push the way Nike sold North Carolina. Walker Jones of the Grove Collective joins next week.

3. The call. Steven says forecast gusts dropped from 40-45 mph to 30-35 overnight and should settle at 15-25; Katz calls the weather "a little bit overstated." Katz's Daily Journal numbers: Ole Miss is missing almost five more tackles a game than a year ago. His margin: Ole Miss by 10 to 17. Steven's pick: 38-24.
