Ole Miss Just Won By 35. Golding Says It's Not Enough For Mizzou | He Said What?!?

Most coaches spend the Monday after a 52-17 win taking a victory lap on four takeaways. That's the wrong read on Pete Golding's press conference. He downgraded his own turnovers ("we're a step late right now"), named three former Rebels on Missouri's roster, and said two of them left because an appeal had not been decided. Now No. 13 Missouri brings a back who just ran for 222 yards to Oxford.

Four days to Missouri. Eleven to Texas.

Steven Willis goes through Pete Golding's Missouri week press conference one "He Said What?" moment at a time: why Austin Simmons and Cayden Lee left, why Golding isn't satisfied with four takeaways, and the offensive line that won player of the game as a unit for the first time this season. Plus why Ole Miss and Missouri is the SEC game of the week, and the one thing Ole Miss cannot do on Saturday.

📌 THREE THINGS

1. Ole Miss lost two starters to an undecided appeal. Golding on Austin Simmons: "You play quarterback, we play one of them... He couldn't take that risk." Cayden Lee had the same worry. Now both are at Missouri with Chris Graves Jr., and Golding says Lee knows what Ole Miss does on defense.

2. Four takeaways were not enough for Golding. "We're dropping those right there. We're a step late right now based on the eyes." Ole Miss missed six tackles at Vanderbilt after three straight games at 14, per PFF, and Missouri's Jamal Roberts just ran for 222 yards on 34 carries.

3. This is the game Ole Miss cannot give away. Steven thinks Ole Miss is the better team, but "this Missouri team can punish you and they will punish you." The offensive line was player of the game as a unit for the first time this season, and Golding called Terez Davis "elite."
