Just a one-minute English speech by Thinking Fox.

Tomorrow is Jugoya.

Looking at the moon is great, but what I really look forward to is eating seasonal treats.

Lots of shops and restaurants come out with seasonal stuff like tsukimi dango, tsukimi soba, and even tsukimi burgers!

By the way, I came across an intriguing article about the moon yesterday.

A big new crater(クレーター) formed on the moon sometime between April and May 2024, but no one noticed it until recently.

The crater is about 222 meters wide, which is roughly twice the length of a soccer field.

Apparently, such a big impact happens about once every 132 years.

unlike the Earth, the moon has no atmosphere to burn up meteorites(隕石), which means they strike its surface much more frequently.

And meteorites larger than 1 meter are said to create about 140 new craters every year.

That's a lot!

If I lived on the moon, I might have to check a meteorite forecast, just like we check the weather forecast for typhoons and storms.

And apparently, knowing how often meteorites hit the moon is really important for building moon bases and for humanity's future plans to live there.

So this Jugoya, while you enjoy the sight of the rabbit in the moon, why not take a moment to imagine how many meteorites are hitting it?

That's it. See you next time.

Thinking Fox
