It is a system where parents, instead of the couple themselves, choose a suitable partner for their child.
Apparently, it is becoming increasingly popular, especially in China.
I came across a news story about it recently.
This trend is likely due to China's shrinking population and a lack of desire among young people to get married.
In Japan, there are also matchmaking agencies, and they are becoming increasingly popular.
But I think parent-led matchmaking is even further ahead of them in that the couple themselves are not the main players.
Even though the couple's emotional connection may be weak, one advantage is that not only the couple but also the two families can clarify each other's values and expectations for married life up front.
So I think it is not such a bad option for building a long-lasting marriage.
That said, in the future, if my children wanted me to do parent-led matchmaking for them, honestly, I would say, “Go find a partner yourself. I don't want to deal with that kind of hassle.”
