The Chastening Of The Lord | Episode 12 | Purgings

Could God be pruning areas of your life so Christ can be seen more clearly?

In Episode 12 of "The Chastening of the Lord," Duane Sheriff teaches how God purges, prunes, and cleanses His people. In John 15, Jesus describes the Father as a vinedresser who prunes fruitful branches so they can bear even more fruit. He then tells His disciples, "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you."

God's Word is the primary way He purges our lives. It washes our minds, corrects our thinking, exposes what is unprofitable, and sanctifies us through truth. God does not need to bring tragedy, failure, or destruction to change us. His Word lovingly reveals what needs to be removed and gives us the truth needed to make a course correction.

Like a skilled artist cutting away everything from a piece of wood that does not belong in the finished work, God sees who we are in Christ and removes the dead wood that does not reflect Him. God's purging is not rooted in anger or wrath. It is the loving work of a Father shaping His children to become more fruitful and Christlike.
