What does it mean that our bodies are not our own?

In Episode 8 of "The Chastening of the Lord," Duane Sheriff teaches that our bodies are members of Christ, bought at a price, and set apart as temples of the Holy Spirit. This truth should shape how we live and how we respond to a culture that celebrates what God tells us to flee fornication.

Sexual immorality is not a minor or peripheral issue in Scripture. Paul warns that sexual sin carries consequences that reach into the body and soul, affecting our minds, emotions, relationships, and ultimately the course of our lives. This is why God lovingly warns and corrects His children rather than allowing us to remain in patterns that can bring destruction. The call to flee is not rooted in shame or condemnation. It is rooted in love—the same love that bought us and refuses to leave us where we are.

God's chastening is redemptive, calling us back to holiness, truth, and His purpose for our lives. Love does not celebrate evil. It celebrates truth. We are not called to conform to the culture around us. We are called to be a counterculture, shaped by the Word and empowered by the Spirit.
