Do you know the difference between demo and kedo in Japanese? 🇯🇵

Both can mean “but,” but Japanese speakers use them a little differently.

For example:

この レストランは おいしいです。でも、ちょっと たかいです。

vs.

この レストランは おいしいけど、ちょっと たかいです。

In this episode, we’ll look at how demo is often used to start a new sentence, while kedo can connect two ideas in one sentence.

We’ll also look at a more interesting difference: sometimes demo feels like you’re adding a new thought, while kedo can feel like you already have both ideas in your mind and are presenting them together.

If you already know demo, this is a great next step toward more natural Japanese conversation!
