On July 9, 2014, a man disguised as a FedEx delivery worker arrived at the Stay family's home in Spring, Texas. Hours later, Stephen and Katie Stay and four of their children were dead. The attacker was Ronald Lee Haskell, Katie's former brother-in-law, who had travelled to Texas searching for his ex-wife, Melannie Lyon.

Fifteen-year-old Cassidy Stay was the only survivor. Despite being seriously wounded, she pretended to be dead, escaped and called 911, warning police that Haskell was heading toward other relatives.

This episode of You Can't Unhear reconstructs the Stay family murders, the history of domestic abuse preceding the attack, Cassidy's extraordinary survival and the 2019 capital murder trial. We examine how a family's efforts to help a woman escape an abusive marriage became central to a devastating act of revenge.
