Un test genetico che dice se svilupperai una parodontite severa prima ancora che tu abbia una tasca. Un pannello salivare che misura il tuo microbioma orale come fosse un check-up completo. Un software che colora di rosso una lesione dubbia sulla radiografia.
Tutto questo esiste già, si vende già, e la domanda che nessuno si fa abbastanza spesso è: cambia davvero qualcosa nella cura di quel paziente, oggi?
In questo episodio parto da un articolo del 2019 pubblicato sul Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine, in cui tre ricercatori di Toronto propongono un controcanto scomodo alla medicina P4 (predittiva, preventiva, personalizzata, partecipativa): la chiamano medicina O4, overtesting, overdiagnosis, overtreatment, overcharging.
Poi porto quel framework dentro lo studio odontoiatrico: test genetici IL-1, biomarcatori salivari, caries risk assessment, intelligenza artificiale diagnostica. Con la letteratura alla mano, che qui racconta una storia più sfumata, e più interessante, di un semplice sì o no.
