In the children's book "Henry and Mudge Get the Cold Shivers," written by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Suçie Stevenson, the narrative follows the bond between a young boy and his 180-pound dog. Initially, the large mastiff enjoys the extra attention and snacks he receives while his owner is home from school with a fever. However, the situation reverses when the pet also becomes ill, leading to a nervous trip to the veterinarian's office. Despite the dog's anxiety and significant shedding in the waiting room, the doctor confirms he simply has a cold that requires rest and medicine. Henry meticulously cares for his companion by creating a comfortable bed filled with familiar toys and treats. The story concludes with the dog’s recovery and a heartfelt expression of affection between the two friends.
