Escape presents “Country of the Blind” originally broadcast on CBS on June 27, 1948. Supplied as episode 44, this sustaining-program drama adapts H. G. Wells’s “The Country of the Blind,” with Paul Frees as mountain guide Juan Nunez and William Conrad providing Escape’s signature voice.
Lost among the Andes, Nunez discovers a secluded valley inhabited by a self-contained community whose people have never known sight. John Dunkel’s adaptation follows his unsettling encounter with a society that understands the world in profoundly different terms.
The 50 Greatest Old Time Radio Shows presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
