Lux Radio Theatre presents “National Velvet,” originally broadcast on CBS on February 3, 1947. This is episode 557, adapted for radio by Sanford Barnett from MGM’s 1944 film, itself based on Enid Bagnold’s novel.
In small-town England, determined young Velvet Brown dreams of entering her remarkable horse in the Grand National. Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney, and Donald Crisp reprise their film roles in this warm drama of ambition, courage, and a former jockey’s renewed sense of purpose.
The 50 Greatest Old Time Radio Shows presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
