Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar presents “The Shepherd Matter, Part 1,” originally broadcast on CBS on April 16, 1956. This installment is commonly listed as episode 373, though some catalogues number it 371. Bob Bailey stars as freelance insurance investigator Johnny Dollar.
Sent to Providence over a suspicious life-insurance application, Dollar looks into Dr. Shepherd’s request for an additional $80,000 in coverage—and the doctor’s unsettling claim that he has reason to fear for his life. Written by John Dawson, a pseudonym of E. Jack Neuman, this is the first chapter of a five-part serial reworking Neuman’s 1952 story “The James Clayton Matter.”
Yours Truly Johnny Dollar presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned and mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
