Srimad Bhaagwat - Skandh 3 (Part 1)

Srimad Bhaagwat - Skandh 3 (Part 1)

In this episode of Srimad Bhaagwat Mahapuran, we explore one of the most heart-touching examples of pure devotion (Bhakti)—the beautiful meeting between Bhagwan Shri Krishna and Vidura.

When Bhagwan Krishna arrives in Hastinapur as a peace messenger, Duryodhana prepares a grand royal feast to welcome Him. Yet Krishna chooses not to accept the lavish hospitality offered with pride and political intention. Instead, He lovingly visits the humble home of Vidura, whose heart is filled with genuine devotion and love for the Lord.

Vidura and his wife, overwhelmed with joy upon seeing Krishna at their doorstep, are unable to contain their emotions. In the intensity of their devotion, they lose all awareness of the surroundings. While offering bananas to Krishna, Sulabha becomes so absorbed in divine love that she unknowingly offers the banana peels instead of the fruit. Krishna, however, accepts them with immense delight, seeing not the material value of the offering but the love and devotion behind it.

This beautiful episode conveys one of the most important teachings of Bhakti: Bhagwan does not measure an offering by its cost or grandeur, but by the purity of the heart with which it is offered. A simple offering made with sincere love can be more precious to Bhagwan than the greatest riches offered with pride or selfish motives.

The episode also reminds us that true devotion is free from ego, calculation, and expectation. Vidura's humble home becomes more sacred than a royal palace because it is filled with genuine love for Bhagwan.

Presented in easy-to-understand Hindi, this episode helps listeners understand the essence of Nishkama Bhakti—devotion without expectation. It inspires us to approach Bhagwan with humility and sincerity, reminding us that even the simplest act, when performed with pure love, can become an offering to the Divine.
