On rainy days, I often check the “rain cloud radar,”
which shows how the clouds are moving, and every time I look at it,
I’m reminded of how useful Japanese onomatopoeia can be.
Light blue means the rain is light, while warmer colors like yellow
and red mean heavier rain.
But for me, the words written underneath—“para-para,”
“potsu-potsu,” and “zaa”— make it much easier to picture
how hard it’s raining than the colors do.
Which makes it easier for you to picture how hard it’s raining,
the colors or the onomatopoeia?
