This review praises the 2026 Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger as a high-quality adaptation that prioritizes tone and atmosphere over a literal recreation of game events. Starring Austin Abrams, the movie follows a courier named Bryan who becomes entangled in a biological nightmare during a winter storm. The critic highlights how the production effectively merges intense horror with situational comedy, creating a cinematic experience that feels spiritually faithful to the original PlayStation games. Technical elements, specifically the shadow-heavy cinematography and the use of first-person perspectives, are lauded for building a sense of dread and isolation. Ultimately, the source frames the movie as a creative success that breaks the cycle of poor video game translations by making bold, fresh narrative choices.
