Bloomberg reported that Sony will skip CES after its electric vehicle venture with Honda was dropped. Sony and Honda formed a joint venture in 2022 under the Afeela brand and showcased prototypes at CES, but the reported end of the collaboration removes a near term mobility platform for Sony. The move suggests Sony will focus trade show spending on businesses with shipping products while it reassesses options in licensing, in car entertainment, or sensors. Honda continues to advance its EV and hybrid plans, including battery capacity in the United States, following the end of its affordable EV plan with General Motors in 2023. CES remains a key venue for automakers and chip suppliers, but Sony's absence reduces one anticipated mobility showcase. Founders and partners should review launch calendars, contract flexibility, and alternative channels in case anchor events or collaborations shift.
