Marvel’s Biggest Franchise Is Now Video-Game IP

Comic fans are still buying the books, learning the continuity, and showing up every month like loyal soldiers… but Marvel’s real money and attention have already left the shop.

The numbers don’t lie: comic-book adaptations collapsed from 31% of the box office in 2022 to just 3.2% in 2024. Meanwhile, video game adaptations like Minecraft ($960M worldwide) and Sonic 3 ($492M) are printing money, and Wolverine drops September 15th to prove games are now the A-tier franchise.

This is the quiet demotion nobody at Marvel or DC wants to say out loud: your local comic shop has become background IP fuel for games and streaming.

In this breakdown:- Why comics are now the pipeline, not the profit center- The brutal Statista numbers + real box office proof- What retailers, publishers, and readers actually need to do before September 15th

If you run a shop, collect comics, or just hate watching your favorite characters get downgraded, this one hits hard.
