Could Louisiana, Louisiana Tech & ULM Really DROP to FCS?! | Sun Belt Podcast

Louisiana’s college football landscape faces a seismic question: Should Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, and ULM Warhawks drop to FCS amid staggering athletic department deficits?

Dave Schultz examines Louisiana Board of Regents member Wilbur Pryor’s controversial proposal, comparing financial realities at schools like Vanderbilt and Nicholls, and challenging whether moving down a tier would truly benefit these storied programs.

Can FCS status revive budgets or will it gut rivalries and attendance? Schultz spotlights the broader impact on Sun Belt Conference competition, the recruiting advantage in a talent-rich region, and how outside economic forces like SpaceX could inject new life—and dollars—into university athletics.

With only 21 of 370 Division I programs turning a profit, is there any upside to taking the humble pie? The debate heats up as fans, alumni, and school officials weigh tradition, exposure, and the genuine value of college football in Louisiana.
