Jeff Howe, Rod Babers, Marcus Myers, CJ Vogel, Hank South and Jordan Scruggs debate whether Colin Simmons is already the greatest defensive player in Texas football history. After a historic 5.5-sack performance against Tennessee, Simmons now has 28.5 career sacks in only 31 games—production that places him alongside Longhorn legends such as Derrick Johnson, Casey Hampton, Brian Orakpo, Tommy Nobis and Earl Thomas.
The panel examines Simmons’ unmatched first-step explosion, natural bend and ability to dominate despite every opponent building its protection plan around him. With a potential 15-sack season putting him on pace to become Texas’ second-leading career sack artist in just three years, has Simmons already reached the Longhorns’ defensive Mount Rushmore—or does he still have work to do?
