Bills That've Pleasantly Surprised This Summer (Featuring WGR's Derek Kramer) — Talking Buffalo

WGR 550’s Derek Kramer joins Patrick Moran for an in-depth conversation about the Buffalo Bills, the Sabres and life in sports radio. They examine Buffalo’s cornerback competition, discuss concerns surrounding Maxwell Hairston and highlight six Bills who have pleasantly surprised during training camp.

Patrick and Derek also evaluate the Bills’ difficult opening schedule, the potential of Buffalo’s revamped offense and why the season opener against the Houston Texans will provide an immediate measuring stick. Plus, they discuss excitement surrounding the Sabres, Connor Hellebuyck trade speculation, WGR’s new Bills game-day watch-along and the importance of avoiding burnout in sports media.

Key Takeaways

Maxwell Hairston remains the expected starting cornerback, but Davison Igbinosun’s improvement could shorten Hairston’s leash if he struggles.
Terrel Bernard, Landon Jackson, Keyontae Jenkins, Josh Palmer, Jalen Kilgore and Kainoa Walker have been among Patrick’s most pleasant training-camp surprises.
Buffalo’s new defensive scheme could better utilize Bernard’s athleticism while creating roles for versatile defenders throughout the secondary.
The Bills’ challenging early schedule should quickly reveal whether their revamped defense and potentially explosive offense are legitimate.
The Sabres remain a source of genuine excitement, even after a relatively quiet offseason and continued uncertainty surrounding a possible Hellebuyck trade.
