Is the Big 12 REALLY a Two-Team Playoff League? BIG 12 SQUAD WEEK 5 PREVIEW

This episode of the Big 12 Squad focused on a pivotal week in the conference, with the spotlight on Arizona and Arizona State as both host major conference matchups. The hosts spent significant time previewing Arizona State vs. Baylor, with Phillip Mulford explaining that the game will reveal a lot about the Sun Devils' ceiling. Arizona State's biggest concern is an offensive line dealing with injuries, while Baylor's defensive front has emerged as one of the conference's most disruptive units. The panel debated whether Baylor's strong start is legitimate or simply a product of favorable matchups, while also discussing Oklahoma State's resurgence after a rocky start. Cody Stovall argued the Cowboys have re-entered the conference title conversation following impressive wins and believes the Big 12 race is much more balanced than it was a year ago, with several teams capable of winning the league.

The second half of the show centered on the national perception of the Big 12 and the conference's College Football Playoff hopes. The hosts debated whether the Big 12 can earn multiple playoff bids, with some arguing the league continues to battle media narratives that favor the SEC and Big Ten despite strong on-field results. They also previewed several key games, including BYU vs. TCU, where TCU appears to be searching for answers after a disappointing start and even held a players-only meeting during the week. Texas Tech's road trip to Colorado, Cincinnati's upset potential against Arizona, and the growing parity across the conference were also major talking points. The group generally agreed that the Big 12 remains highly competitive and unpredictable, but that a team may need not only to win the conference title but also make a deep playoff run to change national perceptions of the league's strength.
