Is BYU vs. Notre Dame a Defining Moment for the Big 12? | BIG 12 SQUAD Weekend Preview

The latest Big 12 Squad podcast centered around a spirited debate over whether BYU's showdown with Notre Dame is the most important game for the Big 12's national perception this season. Cody Stovall and JT Wistrcill argued that a BYU victory would significantly elevate how the conference is viewed nationally and strengthen the league's case for placing multiple teams in the College Football Playoff. Others, including Chris Level, pushed back, contending that conference reputation is built over an entire season and ultimately judged by postseason results rather than a single regular-season game. The discussion also highlighted BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier's growing importance, the impact of missing star running back LJ Martin, and whether a signature win over Notre Dame could launch both BYU and Bachmeier into the national spotlight.

Beyond the marquee matchup in Provo, the crew previewed several key games across the conference. Texas Tech's matchup with Arizona State, Baylor's critical rivalry game against TCU, Utah's trip to Colorado, and the Sunflower Showdown between Kansas and Kansas State were all discussed as contests that could shape the conference race. The panel examined concerns surrounding quarterbacks such as Avery Johnson at Kansas State and Isaac Wilson at Colorado, while also noting surprising storylines like Oregon State's strong season and West Virginia's explosive offense paired with a historically poor defense. Throughout the conversation, the hosts emphasized the growing parity within the Big 12 and the uncertainty surrounding which teams will emerge as legitimate playoff contenders as conference play intensifies.
