Should Homeschooling  Be Regulated

Dr. Phil is discussing a historic shift in education. Students across the country are being withdrawn from their public schools, and being homeschooled at rates reported to be 3 times higher than before the pandemic, with no slowing down. But an issue some are raising when it comes to homeschooling, is the concern that many states lack oversight, assessments, and regulations that could leave children vulnerable for neglect and abuse. Just this past year, the Connecticut Office of the Child Advocate filed a report that recommended tighter Connecticut state oversight for homeschoolers. The OCA claimed after conducting two investigations, they had serious concerns that some parents are taking advantage of what they claimed was Connecticut’s complete lack of oversight in order to isolate children and abuse them. Dr. Phil will speak Diane Connors who is the founder and co-president of the Connecticut Homeschool Network. Diane claims homeschooling is the safest place for children, and the OCA report is not transparent and is misleading to give law makers a reason to infringe on the parental rights of parents in how they educate their children.
