STATEMENT: BYU Cougars Show Their Dominance & Bear Bachmeier's Star Power WIth Iowa State Demolition

Welcome into another edition of Locked On Cougars, hosted by Jake Hatch! The No. 8 BYU Cougars improved to a flawless 5-0 on the season with a 24-10 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones at LaVell Edwards Stadium. While the final score reflects a double-digit win, this was an intriguing night of Big 12 football that felt like a complete blowout on the stat sheet, yet remained closer than expected due to critical mistakes.

On today's show, we break down a sensational performance from freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who put his full star power on display. Bachmeier carved up the Cyclones for a season-high 329 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air, while adding 109 rushing yards on the ground to eclipse 400 total yards by himself. Behind Bachmeier's playmaking, the BYU offense moved the ball virtually at will, racking up over 500 total yards.

Meanwhile, Jay Hill’s defense put on an absolute masterclass. We examine how the Cougars completely suffocated Iowa State, holding the Cyclones to just 200 yards of total offense and preventing them from generating any rhythm.

However, it wasn't all picture-perfect for the Cougars. We address the frustrating red zone miscues and special teams gaffes—including a muffed punt—that left multiple scores on the field and kept Iowa State hanging around far longer than they should have been.

Tune in as we analyze the film, hand out game balls, and look ahead to what the Cougars need to clean up as they prepare for a massive showdown against Notre Dame next week! Make sure to subscribe, rate, and review Locked On Cougars on YouTube or your preferred podcast platform.
