POWERHOUSE: BYU Football & Bear Bachmeier Prepare to CONTROL Colorado State & Jim Mora's 2-0 Upstart Rams | Locked On Crossover

BYU football heads to Fort Collins carrying College Football Playoff hype and a 1-0 Big 12 record, ready to take on Jim Mora’s upstart Colorado State Rams. Will Bear Bachmeier and LJ Martin continue BYU’s statement run, or can Hauss Hejny and an ambitious Colorado State squad pull off a program-defining upset? This matchup isn’t just about standings—it’s a meeting of two teams aiming to redefine their conference and national trajectories.

Christian Rauh and Jake Hatch dissect the renewed rivalry and its playoff implications, examining how the BYU Cougars' comprehensive performance against Arizona has shifted the perception of the Big 12 race. The discussion highlights Bear Bachmeier’s stellar quarterback play and his rapport with LJ Martin, whose physical running style has become central to BYU’s offense. Defensively, Jake spotlights transfer linebacker Cade Uluave’s game-changing presence, emphasizing the need for BYU to contain Colorado State’s ground attack.

On the Rams’ side, standout transfer additions Mel Brown and Dorel Robinson offer a dynamic one-two punch, while linebacker Oumar Diomande’s knack for timely turnovers makes him a defensive cornerstone. Christian Rauh questions whether Colorado State’s consistency across all phases can close the gap with a top-ranked opponent, especially in the electric home environment at Canvas Stadium. The potential X-factors? CSU’s inside knowledge from former BYU staffer Matt Mitchell and linebacker Matt Ah You, providing tactical insight against familiar faces.

The conversation also takes a sharp look at conference dynamics, referencing close battles Oregon State has had against Big 12 contenders in Texas Tech and Houston, and considering whether Colorado State can emulate those near-upsets. Insights into NIL investments and player retention offer a broader view of the college football landscape. Both hosts weigh in on whether BYU will cover the 17.5-point spread or if Colorado State’s grit will keep things close.

Ultimately, this in-depth preview sets the scene for a pivotal game with postseason implications, key player matchups, and the potential for narrative-shifting surprises. BYU aims to maintain its dominance, while Colorado State seeks respect and a breakthrough moment under Jim Mora Jr. A must-listen for fans tracking the Big 12, Pac-12, and college football’s developing power structure.
