The United Nations General Assembly is underway in New York, with world leaders, heads of state and diplomats gathering to discuss some of the biggest issues facing our planet.
But what exactly is the United Nations? Why was it created? How does it get almost 200 countries to work together—and what does any of that have to do with kids?
In this week’s From the Vault, we’re dusting off our Shortcut to the United Nations. Christie and Bryce discover how the UN began, what happens inside its very long General Assembly, why five countries have special veto powers and how the UN works to protect peace, human rights, health, education and the environment.
So pop on your diplomatic headphones and get ready to discover why the UN matters to all of us.
