Hi, I'm Connor with Honor - message me here!

You did not ruin everything with one meal. The dangerous part may be the sentence that follows it: “I blew it. I’ll start over Monday.” One sleeve of cookies on Tuesday night becomes Wednesday through Sunday, and suddenly one unplanned meal has been converted into fifteen more. Connor calls that Monday Math.

Listen, watch, and continue the conversation at https://TheLastAddiction.com

Connor MacIvor examines the sentence after a food slip and the relapse principle called the abstinence violation effect. Shame and all-or-nothing thinking can turn one lapse into a much longer return to old behavior.

Connor once carried 365 pounds, reached 231, and is around 280 in this recording. He is still doing the work and learning how to take back the next decision. This conversation comes from inside the struggle.

The replacement sentence is:

“That was one meal. The next one is mine.”

TL;DR

A slip is an event, not a character verdict. Do not make it a license to disappear until Monday or punish it with a compensatory fast. Return to the next ordinary meal you planned. The next bite is the only decision that exists.

QUESTIONS THIS ANSWERS

Q: Did one bad meal erase all my progress?
A: No. One meal is one event. The larger danger is the permission slip we create after it.

Q: What should I say after overeating?
A: “That was one meal. The next one is mine.” It names what happened without turning it into your identity.

Q: Should I extend a fast to compensate?
A: Not as punishment. Return to the next meal you already planned. Decisions about fasting should be made calmly and, where appropriate, with medical guidance.

Q: What is the abstinence violation effect?
A: It describes how guilt and self-blame after a lapse can increase the chance of abandoning the larger change. Lapse does not have to become relapse.

Q: When is this bigger than a slip?
A: If episodes repeatedly involve loss of control, distress, or a binge pattern, talk with a qualified medical or mental health professional. Calling for backup is disciplined.

YOUR TWO-PART RESET

Put “That was one meal. The next one is mine” where you will see it. Then decide now which ordinary, planned meal you will return to after a slip. Do not invent a punishment while ashamed. Give your future self a calm instruction.

The Last Addiction is about food addiction recovery, fasting with judgment, breaking sugar and processed-food dependence, and rebuilding self-command. We practice ownership of the next choice.
