Smart glasses are eyeglasses equipped with a variety of features, such as listening to music, recording videos, and checking social media.
However, as the technology has advanced, many concerns have been raised.
According to an article I read, there is a trend toward banning the use of smart glasses in public places such as courtrooms and some facilities.
One major concern is their recording feature.
For example, people could have their conversations recorded without knowing it, which may lead to an invasion of privacy.
Moreover, some theaters have raised concerns that the recording feature could lead to copyright infringement.
To help address these concerns, some manufacturers have introduced measures.
For example, an indicator light automatically turns on while the glasses are recording, letting people nearby know that they are being filmed.
Other manufacturers have chosen not to include a recording feature in their smart glasses at all.
Come to think of it, I wonder if these concerns also apply to dashcams, which we call "drive recorders" in Japan.
If smart glasses pose a risk to privacy, doesn't the same apply to dashcams?
But dashcams are designed to record evidence in case of traffic accidents.
When I looked into it, I found that as long as they are used for that purpose, and not for personal use such as posting videos on social media, they are not generally seen as a privacy concern.
