◈ Le Fons. OHAYOO. Shibuya on a warm night, windows down.
Opens on a filtered 2-step beat and Rhodes so close-mic'd it feels like breath. The bassline arrives early and stays in charge the whole time. Motown-thick, virtuosic, driving the groove the way a lead instrument should. Around it: soulful vocal chops, disco strings, horn stabs that land clean. The shuffle is pure late-90s UK garage mechanics, that ghost-rimshot swing, that sub-bass pocket. The city-pop warmth wraps around it without softening the edge.
Breakdown strips it back hard. Rhodes, a sax solo running loose, chorus guitar bleeding at the edges. Filtered drums barely holding the pulse. Then the outro lets the Motown funk bass walk it out alone. No fanfare. Just the groove finishing its sentence.
Japanese city-pop house with genuine 2-step lineage. Le Fons is transmitting from somewhere between Shibuya and a 1999 rave floor, and the signal is clean.
