A five-year-old boy had no wealth, no social position, and no protection except his mother. Then, one night, he lost her too.

How did this helpless son of a maidservant eventually become Devarshi Narada Muni, the great devotee who travels throughout the universe glorifying Lord Sri Krishna?

In this episode of Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 1, Chapter 6, we explore Narada Muni’s extraordinary spiritual journey as he narrates his previous life to Srila Vyasadeva.

We discover how a brief association with pure devotees planted the seed of bhakti within his heart; how hearing Krishna-katha transformed his consciousness; how he accepted even the loss of his mother through the vision of divine providence; and how, while meditating upon the lotus feet of the Lord in a solitary forest, he received the transcendental vision of Sri Krishna.

But why did the Lord disappear after granting Narada His darshan?

The Lord explains that this brief vision was meant to intensify Narada’s longing for Him. As longing for Krishna increases, material desires gradually lose their hold upon the heart.

This chapter reveals the transformative progression of spiritual life:Sadhu-sanga → Hearing → Remembrance → Longing for Krishna → Kirtan → Pure Devotional Service

Narada Muni also explains why controlling the senses alone cannot completely satisfy the soul. True satisfaction comes through Mukunda-seva — loving devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
