EP35: Japanese Past Tense (〜ました) | I Ate, I Drank, I Went

Today we learn one of the most useful Japanese grammar patterns:

〜ました

The Japanese past tense.

If you already know:

• たべます
• のみます
• いきます
• みます

then you’re very close!

Simply changing ます → ました lets you talk about things you did in the past.

In this episode, we practice:

• たべました (I ate)
• のみました (I drank)
• いきました (I went)
• みました (I saw / watched)
• かいました (I bought)
• しらべました (I looked up)

We also learn useful travel vocabulary:

• にほんしゅ (sake)
• ふじさん (Mt. Fuji)
• ラーメン (ramen)
• くつ (shoes)
• レストラン (restaurant)
• どうが (video)

Plus a simple grammar tip:

• を for actions
• に for destinations
