On September 1, 2026, police responded to a horrifying scene inside a family home in Frankfort, Illinois. Two-year-old Barrett “Bear” Walsh was found unresponsive in the basement, while his mother, 40-year-old Corie Walsh, was discovered injured elsewhere in the house.

But investigators soon uncovered another disturbing detail. Just hours earlier, prosecutors say Corie had been actively discussing the nationally watched Lindsay Clancy murder trial with friends. She later allegedly told investigators that she believed Barrett was “the devil” and “the Antichrist.”

Now charged with first-degree murder, Corie's attorneys say she was experiencing a severe psychotic episode. The case raises an uncomfortable question already at the center of the Lindsay Clancy trial: when severe mental illness and homicide collide, how does a court determine criminal responsibility?
