King Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna and son of Abhimanyu, was a righteous ruler devoted to Dharma. Yet one moment of exhaustion, thirst, and wounded pride changed the course of his life.

After an incident at the hermitage of Sage Shamika, the young sage Shringi pronounced a terrible curse: King Parikshit would die within seven days from the bite of Takshaka.

But what happened next transformed a curse into a profound spiritual inquiry.

Rather than clinging to his kingdom or seeking to escape his fate, Parikshit accepted the situation, renounced his throne, and went to the banks of the Ganges.

With only seven days remaining, he asked the question that lies at the heart of the Bhagavata Purana:

“When death is near and everything is stripped away, what should a human being remember and contemplate?”

Then, Sage Shukadeva arrived.

And with his arrival began the sacred recitation of the Srimad Bhagavata Mahapurana.

अर्जुन के पोते और अभिमन्यु के बेटे, राजा परीक्षित धर्म को मानने वाले एक नेक राजा थे। लेकिन थकान, प्यास और आहत अहंकार के एक पल ने उनके जीवन की दिशा बदल दी।

ऋषि शमीक के आश्रम में हुई एक घटना के बाद, युवा ऋषि श्रृंगी ने एक भयानक श्राप दिया: राजा परीक्षित की मृत्यु सात दिनों के भीतर तक्षक के काटने से हो जाएगी।

लेकिन इसके बाद जो हुआ, उसने श्राप को एक गहरी आध्यात्मिक खोज में बदल दिया।

अपने राज्य से चिपके रहने या अपनी किस्मत से भागने के बजाय, परीक्षित ने स्थिति को स्वीकार किया, अपना सिंहासन त्याग दिया और गंगा के किनारे चले गए।

केवल सात दिन बचे होने पर, उन्होंने वह सवाल पूछा जो भागवत पुराण का मूल है:

"जब मृत्यु निकट हो और सब कुछ छिन जाए, तो मनुष्य को किस बात का स्मरण और चिंतन करना चाहिए?"

तब, ऋषि शुकदेव वहाँ पधारे।

और उनके आगमन के साथ ही श्रीमद्भागवत महापुराण का पवित्र पाठ शुरू हुआ।
