第64話: ゲノム育種について調べたよ

テーマは「ゲノム育種」。リコがベランダのミニトマトから興味を持ち、品種改良の最先端技術について調べてきた。ゲノム育種には、遺伝子をピンポイントで改変する「ゲノム編集」と、DNA情報から優れた個体を選ぶ「ゲノム選抜」の二つの意味がある。従来の偶然に頼る品種改良と異なり、効率的かつ短期間での開発を可能にする一方、消費者の理解や技術の独占といった社会的な課題も存在する。コトハはその響きにSF的なロマンを感じ、二人は未来の品種名や新たな職業について空想を膨らませた。
