Hacker Newsroom for 25 September recaps major Hacker News stories, moving through f-droid 2.0, claude enzyme discovery, meta glasses video dispute.
1. F-Droid 2.0
F-Droid 2.0 gives the open source Android app store its biggest update in ten years. The project's announcement describes a redesigned interface built around Discover, Search, and My Apps, with more detailed categories and search that reaches into descriptions and translated content.
2. Claude Enzyme Discovery
Claude has identified an unusual enzyme system with DNA repeats resembling those found in CRISPR, according to a post from Anthropic. The company says roughly nine hundred and fifty agents spent twenty-one hours searching DNA data, eventually identifying an array of repeats and an accessory protein alongside a previously known reverse transcriptase, an enzyme that copies RNA into DNA.
3. Meta Glasses Video Dispute
Meta’s camera glasses became a test of the company’s own tolerance for being filmed. A Reddit post describes Dutch satirist Roel Maalderink visiting Meta’s Amsterdam office with digital rights group Bits of Freedom, recording interviews with employees while wearing the glasses.
That's the digest.
