Omer Leshem survived the massacre at the Nova & Mushroom Festival. Since then, he has turned his personal struggle into a public voice for survivors who find it difficult to speak for themselves. While others had to direct all their strength inward to cope with what they had endured, Omer chose to channel some of his pain outward, into Knesset committees, meetings with decision-makers and the media, turning his personal struggle into a fight for the entire community.During one Knesset hearing, he summed up the gap between the magnitude of the trauma and the support survivors receive in a single sentence: “I have 36 hours of therapy, and I spent far more hours awake during the attack than the number of therapy hours I receive.”Omer came to the Knesset not only to tell his own story. Through his work with the Nova Tribe Community Association, he became actively involved in fighting for the rights and support survivors and families affected by October 7 deserve. One significant campaign he took part in focused on limiting the legal fees that can be charged to victims of hostile acts when claiming their rights. Following extensive discussions in the Knesset, the law passed in June 2026, introducing limits designed to protect those who have already paid such a heavy price.Behind the Knesset appearances and public advocacy is still Omer the survivor, a young man who carries October 7 with him but has chosen to transform part of his pain and struggle into action for others.Omer fights for therapy, rights and the support survivors deserve, and above all, to ensure that none of them has to face the system alone. This is an episode about survival becoming a mission, one voice refusing to remain silent, and a man who realized that if he can stand before decision-makers, he will stand there for those who cannot yet stand there for themselves.
