This classic Golden Book tells the story of Magilla Gorilla, a resident of Mr. Peebles' pet shop who is eventually adopted by Professor Wiggins to work on a Brazilian banana plantation. Although the journey is filled with adventure—including a shipboard voyage, a vibrant Carnival celebration, and a heroic encounter with wild hogs—the pair initially struggles to revive their dilapidated farm. Success finally arrives with the help of local inhabitants who assist in cultivating the land, yet Magilla finds himself overcome with homesickness for his original owner. The narrative concludes with a heartwarming reunion as the gorilla returns to the pet shop accompanied by a massive, free supply of fruit for his friend. This tale emphasizes the enduring strength of loyalty and friendship despite the allure of far-off places.
