Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon is a children’s book by Cynthia Rylant that follows the autumn adventures of a young boy and his large dog. The story is divided into three parts, beginning with the pair exploring the changing colors and wildlife of the fall season. During Halloween, Henry overcomes his fear of his mother’s creepy stories by finding comfort in the presence of his loyal pet. The final section depicts a Thanksgiving visit from an aunt whom Henry initially dislikes until she bonds with Mudge over snacks. Throughout the book, the strong friendship between the two characters helps them navigate new experiences and holiday traditions. This Ready-to-Read volume emphasizes themes of companionship and bravery through simple text and expressive illustrations.
