Who Holds the Mirror | The Swans: Behind the Mirror S1 E1 Teaser

Picture it: 2004. Sixteen women, ninety days, and every mirror covered. Fox called it The Swan. The contestants called it Pretty Prison. One of them, Season 2's Kari Bravata, says she nearly died during surgery.

Hulu's new documentary, The Swan: Behind the Mirror, from director Erin Lee Carr, lets the women tell their side more than twenty years later. In this bonus trailer, Elle Schwartz previews her full breakdown on The Good Edit Unfiltered: the casting, the boardroom where doctors assessed each woman's body, the pageant twist contestants say was kept from them until after surgery, and the empty chairs left by creator Nely Galán and Dr. Terry Dubrow, Heather Dubrow's husband on RHOC.

As a behavioral analyst, Elle asks the question at the center of it all: when the goal was to make these women beautiful, whose standard were they chasing?
