Gunsmoke presents “Pokey Pete,” episode 384 of the classic CBS radio series, originally broadcast on August 16, 1959. William Conrad stars as Marshal Matt Dillon, with Parley Baer as Chester, Georgia Ellis as Kitty, and Howard McNear as Doc. Written by Marian Clark and produced by Norman Macdonnell.
Dodge City residents are used to the monthly appearance of Pokey Pete, a quiet, elderly outsider whose unusual look inspires more ridicule and rumor than understanding. When Chester’s tall tale about Pete and hidden treasure reaches a local boy, Matt and the town are drawn into a tense lesson about assumptions.
Gunsmoke presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
