Suspense presents “The Waxwork (William Conrad Voices All CHARACTERS),” originally broadcast May 1, 1956. This local archival recording is identified as episode 1. Adapted by Mel Dinelli from A. M. Burrage’s 1931 short story, the CBS thriller features William Conrad in a rare one-man dramatic showcase.
Hard-pressed freelance reporter Raymond Hewson agrees to spend a night in a wax museum’s Murderers’ Den in search of a saleable story. Surrounded by unnervingly lifelike figures and deepening shadows, he finds isolation and imagination becoming difficult to separate. Antony Ellis directed and produced.
Suspense presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
