In Been There, Sandra recalls the work experience that changed her professional philosophy. As the top producer at a mortgage brokerage, she asked to increase her commission split from 40 percent to 50 percent and received an immediate refusal with no room for discussion. At 26, she decided to stop building someone else’s company and use her knowledge, confidence, and industry connections to start her own. Her future husband supplied the funding, and their company opened in 1998.
