Srimad Bhaagwat - Skandh 3 (Part 9)
In this episode of Srimad Bhaagwat Mahapuran, we explore a fascinating spiritual story that answers a profound question: Who is truly the greatest being in all of creation?
The story begins with Devarshi Narada, who approaches Bhagwan with this intriguing question. Rather than giving a simple answer, Bhagwan reveals the truth through a remarkable chain of reasoning that takes us through the different levels of creation and divine power.
The Earth appears vast and powerful, yet it is supported by Sheshnaag, the cosmic serpent. Sheshnaag, in turn, is connected with the divine power of Lord Shiva, who resides upon the sacred Mount Kailash. The story then moves to Ravana, who, through his immense strength, once attempted to lift Mount Kailash. His arrogance and power, however, were ultimately overcome.
The narrative then introduces Sage Agastya, whose spiritual power was so extraordinary that he is traditionally described as having consumed the vast ocean. Yet even this great sage is shown to be insignificant when compared with something still greater.
Bhagwan ultimately reveals the highest truth: the greatest is the devotee who carries Bhagwan within his heart.
This teaching beautifully reverses our ordinary understanding of greatness. We often measure greatness through physical strength, wealth, knowledge, authority, supernatural abilities, or social position. The Bhaagwat teaches that these forms of power remain limited. The heart of a true devotee, however, becomes a sacred dwelling place for Bhagwan Himself.
A genuine devotee does not merely know about God—he lives in remembrance of God, surrenders his ego, and allows divine love to guide his actions. Therefore, the Lord declares His devotees to be extraordinarily dear and spiritually exalted.
Presented in easy-to-understand Hindi, this episode offers a beautiful lesson in Bhakti, humility, and the true meaning of spiritual greatness. It reminds us that the ultimate measure of a person's greatness is not what they possess or control, but how completely their heart is surrendered to Bhagwan.
