What if the miracle you're praying for begins with a shovel in your hands?
In 2 Kings 3, the prophet Elisha brings water to three desperate armies in the wilderness, but first he commands them to dig ditches in a dry valley.
Join Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel for a powerful exploration of biblical prophecy, teshuva (repentance and return), and what this ancient story reveals about the Jewish people's return to the Land of Israel today.
In this chapter, we explore: -Elisha, the prophet of water: How his first miracles contrast with Elijah's fire and reveal the power of humble service. -The power of joy and music: Why the Sages teach that prophecy and the Divine Presence are connected to a joyful heart. -Digging ditches in a dry valley: What 2 Kings 3:16–17 teaches us about faith, action, and preparing for blessings we cannot yet see. -Israel's enemies and the power of unity: Why Moab misreads the miracle and how this ancient story speaks to the Jewish people in our own generation. -Teshuva and the return to the Land: Why a miracle cannot do our spiritual work for us, and what it means to keep returning to Hashem and the Land of Israel.
