Russia Blocked the Food—Ukraine Found a Way In

I examine Ukraine’s reported four-ton drone delivery of food into Russian-occupied Oleshki, across the Dnieper from Kherson. With regular food deliveries reportedly halted since May, residents face shortages of food, medicine, electricity, and transport; estimates of civilians still in and near the city range from roughly 2,000 to more than 6,000. Reports also say Russian forces have blocked normal aid routes, hindered evacuation, and threatened civilians seeking supplies.

I break down how Ukrainian Marines, National Guard personnel, and border guards reportedly used Perun Max and Vampire drones to deliver packages to 100 locations while operating under Russian fire. This was more than a dramatic logistics feat: it tests whether Ukraine can sustain isolated civilians behind the lines when conventional humanitarian access is denied—and what civilian protection demands in a drone-dominated war.
